The detonation was triggered as police and firefighters entered the residence near Verona to enforce an removal notice for a brother and sister trio who were older adults.
The three victims who died were members of the Italian military police.

“This moment calls for sorrow,” said Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, who mentioned that attempts had been made to displace the brother and sister trio in the previous occasions.

The head of the Veneto region, President Zaia, stated the farmhouse was facing an court order due to unpaid amounts incurred by the property owners.
Conflict resolution experts had been dispatched to talk with the family members who had locked themselves into the home. When the officers came just after 03:00 (01:00 GMT), investigators think one of the residents caused the blast.
“When we entered the property, we faced an utterly insane act,” local police chief Commander Papagno told news outlets.
“A gas cylinder had been ignited, and the detonation directly hit our personnel,” he added.
Petrol bombs were also discovered at the property, the interior minister said.
Injuries and Destruction
Injured individuals by the blast consisted of an additional 11 personnel of the military police as well as three members of the state police and a emergency responder.
According to the local prosecutor, the property was in a derelict state and had was without power.
The prosecutor thought the explosion had taken place on a level above the doorway and stated to journalists it was a “premeditated and voluntary homicide”. Shortly before the blast, he mentioned officers had “detected a whistling noise, presumably the gas canisters being activated”.
Neighbor Statements
“All of us understood the scenario was critical,” local residents told local news, adding that the three had earlier warned to “detonate the property” rather than vacate the property.
“The explosion had left a ‘terrible, very painful and dramatic toll’.”
